There is not a lot to do in Nottingham itself.  The city centre is blessed with a beautiful town hall, but it has all the hallmarks of a large city. The Trent river runs through the city and is popular for taking narrow boat cruises.  Many of the attractions in the local area are 10-15 miles from the city centre.
